HPD Girls Soccer League to Play First Games of Fall Soccer Season


(Hartford) -
 The Hartford Police Department's Girls Soccer League will play its first two games of it's Fall soccer season this afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m., in Columbus Park, 680 Franklin Avenue, Hartford.

In it's fifth season, the soccer league, made up of 65 third and fourth grade girls between the ages of 8-10 from Milner and Naylor Schools in Hartford, is comprised of four teams: The Pink Panthers; The Red Flames; The Blue Ice and The Green Thunder.   Organized by Hartford Police Lieutenant William Schwarz with the support of ten Hartford police officers and one civilian employee serving as coaches and assistants, the league is funded through grants from the Connecticut Juvenile Justice Education Center, City of Hartford, and the U.S. Department of Justice's Hartford Weed and Seed Program.

The media and public are invited to this afternoon's soccer games scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and concluded at approximately 5:15 p.m.
