Hartford Police Release Identity of Motor Vehicle Accident Fatalities

(Hartford) -  On December 13, 2008, at approximately 10:12 p.m., Hartford Police, Fire and EMS units responded to the area of Windsor and Canton Streets on a report of a motor vehicle crash.  On arrival officers located a 2002 Nissan Altima crashed into a utility pole. Hartford Fire Department personnel were required to extricate the two occupants of the vehicle who were then transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The operator of the vehicle, Ideal Pugh, 25, of East Hartford, was pronounced deceased at Hartford Hospital at approximately 10:35 p.m.  The passenger, Kenneth Holmes, 19, of Hartford, was pronounced deceased at St. Francis Hospital at approximately 3:30 a.m. on December 14th. 

Preliminary investigation by the HPD's Crime Scene Investigation Division, along with witness accounts, indicate that the vehicle was traveling south on Windsor Street at a high rate of speed while passing several cars.  The operator apparently lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Windsor and Canton Streets, striking a fire hydrant and a concrete wall before contacting with a utility pole where it came to rest.  Both speed and reckless operation of the vehicle appear to be factors in the crash.
