POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS Mural Painted by Hartford Youth Unveiled at Hartford Police Headquarters Hartford, CT . . . A mural depicting the Hartford Police Department’s themes of service, relationships and safety was unveiled today at the Department’s headquarters on Jennings Road. Young people from Our Piece of the Pie® designed and painted the mural as part of the summer youth employment program administered through Capital Workforce Partners and funded by the City of Hartford, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and area Corporate Foundations. “The mural is a wonderful depiction of the themes of service, relationships and safety that we advance every day, and the project itself, a partnership between Hartford students and the police department, puts into practice those themes of building positive community police relations,” said Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts. Bob Rath, President/CEO of Our Piece of the Pie, praised the youth “for their creativity and hard work and for being great representatives of OPP.” “We are thrilled again with the great work Our Piece of the Pie does to connect the young people of Hartford with artistic and entrepreneurial projects and for providing the competency framework and pathways to reach their career dreams,” says Dennis Mink, Capital Workforce Partners Future Workforce Program Coordinator. Our Piece of the Pie is a youth development agency working with Hartford youth, ages 14-24 to help them become successful adults. Their signature Pathways to Success program provides a one-one-one relationship with a Youth Development Specialist who helps them reach their goals. The mural project is a program of Junior Art Makers, one of the organization’s Youth Businesses, which provides youth with entrepreneurial and life skills to meet the demands of the workplace.
