Profile of Hartford Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team, June 2006

The purpose of the Hostage Negotiation Team is to handle both hostage and/or barricaded person situations with maximum safety to all involved. The team also deals with crisis situations that require mediation in order to achieve safe results.

The Hostage Negotiator Team consists of a team of  twelve members, one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, and ten officers/detectives. All of these members have extensive training in the field of negotiation. The team collaborates with both the Patrol Division and units of the Emergency Response Service Units (ERT, DCT, Bomb Squad, etc...) during crisis incidences.
