On July 31, 2014 at approx. 3:44am the Hartford Public Safety dispatch center received 911 calls regarding a shot fired and an attempted robbery. Hartford Police Patrol Officers converged on the area, and a perimeter was established. An Officer observed the suspect, exited his cruiser and chased him on foot. In a rear yard on Campfield Ave. the Officer came around the corner of a house to observe the suspect already pointing a hand gun at him. The Officer fired two shots and sought cover. The suspect again ran on foot and was eventually located by responding HPD C Squad Patrol Officers. The suspect was not struck by the officer's gun fire. The suspect's gun, a Glock 17 9mm, was also recovered.
The victim of the robbery on Broad St. was located and was uninjured. A single shell casing was recovered on Broad St. The Hartford Police Major Crimes Division and the Crime Scene Division responded to conduct the investigation. The CT State's Attorney's Office in Hartford was notified.
Accused: Derrick Gray, 28, of Hartford CT. Gray is a convicted felon.

Gray was also charged for an outstanding Violation of Probation warrant. He is being held on a $775,000 bond.
