July 29, 2014. Memebers of the Hartford Police Department attended the 11th Annual South Marshall Street Block Party. The event was sponsored by the Salvation Army, Aetna, and the Greater Hartford Arts Council. This is a free event which provides informational resources to the community as well as entertainment, food, refreshments, and a bicycle raffle. See flyer below for more information.
On June 9th, 2014, Hartford Police Patrol Officers and Shooting Task Force Units responded to 1048 Capitol Avenue for an assault with a firearm and a shot fired. On arrival officers located a crime scene consisting of blood in front of the Villa Brava Grocery. Closed circuit video showed a Hispanic male suspect confront another unidentified male apparently conducting a street level drug transaction. The Hispanic male suspect is observed removing a firearm from his waistband and pistol whips the unidentified male in the face. The Hispanic male suspect then fires one shot towards the victims feet and motions the victim to leave the area. During the course of the investigation Shooting Task Force investigators identified the Hispanic male suspect as Ruben Reyes. As Detectives were conducting the on-going investigation, information was received that on July 18th, 2014, Ruben Reyes went back to the Villa Brava Grocery, brandished a firearm, and threatened the store workers regarding the original incident. HPD Patrol Officers responded to the call, however Reyes had left the area and was not located. Investigators submitted two arrest warrants to GA14 which were granted July 23, 2014.On July 24th, 2014, at approximately 8pm, Reyes was apprehended in front of 75 James Street without incident.

On July 12th, 2014 at 3:23am, Hartford Police Patrol Units responded to 831 Maple Avenue for multiple calls for shots fired. On arrival officers located an abandoned vehicle across the street from the Citgo Station with heavy front end damage from striking a utility pole. The vehicle had numerous bullet holes in the front windshield. A short time later an intended victim arrived at Hartford Hospital with facial injuries, determined by doctors to have been caused by the accident. The intended victim stated he crashed while fleeing gunshots directed at his vehicle from a Hispanic male suspect. This incident was assigned to the Hartford Police Shooting Task Force. Video was obtained capturing the incident. Investigators identified the shooter as Accused Jerry Duncan and also located a suspect vehicle. An arrest warrant was submitted to GA14 and granted on July 16th, 2014, with a Judge set bond of $2,000,000.00. STF members had been actively seeking Duncan. On July 25th, 2014 at approximately 5:30pm, Duncan was apprehended without incident at 74 Yale Street. The firearm used in the incident was recovered.
