2013 Homicide Arrest

On December 20, 2013 at approximately 9:00pm, Hartford Police Patrol officers responded to the location of 109 Adelaide Street on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers located a victim, Angel Vasquez 23 of Hartford suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead, on scene, at 2117 hours by EMS personnel. The investigation produced on scene physical evidence which led to the identification of a person of interest via DNA profile. This DNA work was completed by the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services Forensic Science Laboratory; they identified this individual as Daniel Morales 03/20/84 aka “Mafi” of East Hartford and Hartford. Hartford Police Homicide Detectives had already developed Morales as a suspect. The DNA hit confirmed the detectives working theory that Morales was involved in the incident. Morales, a convicted felon was out on Parole. As is common practice, the HPD homicide detectives then began working closely with CT Parole officers to locate Morales. Ultimately Morales was located and taken to the Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division. On April 24, 2014, Morales was interviewed at the Hartford Police Department, and ultimately confessed to shooting and killing Vasquez. Morales was subsequently remanded to DOC custody by CT Parole Officers and is currently incarcerated. On April 29, 2014, an arrest warrant was approved for Daniel Morales, charging him with Murder, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Use of a Firearm and Tampering with Evidence with a judge set bond of one million dollars. The warrant will be served at Morales’s next court appearance. HPD homicide detectives continue to work through active and cold cases from 2013.
