Victim Identified in Maple Avenue Shooting

On May 26, 2015 at approx. 11:14pm Hartford Police Police Patrol units responded to 616 Maple Avenue for the report of shots fired and subsequent report of a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, officers located a 23 year-old male victim inside the Ciales Grocery suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and hand. EMS responded and transported the victim to Hartford Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 1:55am. Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded. MCD is continuing the investigation.

Update: Shooting of Pastor/Garden Street Shooting

On Sunday, May 24, 2015, at approximately 6:27am, Patrol Officers responded to the area of Capitol Avenue and Newton Street regarding reports of gun shots and an injured person. The victim was located on the road directly in front of the First Church of Nazarene. Initial first aid was conducted until members of an AMR Ambulance arrived. The victim, a pastor, was transported to Saint Francis Hospital and is being treated for (3) gunshot wounds (2 to the right leg and 1 to the left shoulder area).

Then at 6:41am, Hartford Police Officers responded to 402 Garden St. for a report of multiple gunshots being fired. Upon arrival they located the victim on Mather Street near Garden Street suffering from multiple gunshots wounds. A crime scene was located in front of 402 Garden Street. The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital Emergency Room by ambulance suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso and arms. He was later listed in serious, but stable condition. Motive for both crimes remain unclear and open. Both investigations are active and ongoing.

Detectives have evidence to directly connect these two shootings. Accordingly, the suspect depicted in the video is a person of interest and he is possibly the shooter. Investigation has located the attached surveillance video.

Suspect vehicle is likely a black Nissan Maxima as seen in the video. The suspect is as seen in the video is likely a light skin black or Hispanic male with the grey hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and the on and off baseball hat.

Please distribute and post. We are seeking the public's help in identifying this suspect, and finding this vehicle. If you locate this vehicle or suspect, please do not approach. The suspect appears to have violent tendencies.

Firearms Arrest Webster & Bond Street

On May 27, 2015, investigators from the Hartford Police Department Vice and Narcotic Detectives received credible information that armed individuals would be in the area of Maple Ave and Webster Street due to a recent homicide which occurred in the area of Maple Ave. Investigators observed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Webster Street. Those vehicles were observed turning into the rear parking lot of Victoria Market and began conducting what appeared to be a drug transaction. Units surveilling the area were able to stop a blue, BMW inside the Victoria Market lot where a .25 caliber handgun was recovered under the passenger seat of that vehicle. The operator of the BMW was identified as James Smith, 22, of Hartford, CT. The second vehicle, a Hyundai, was stopped by units in the area of Bond Street where a .22 caliber firearm was recovered under the driver's seat. The operator of the Hyundai, identified as Raheen Gunn, 21, of Hartford, CT was also found to be in possession of narcotics. Gunn was found to be extremely uncooperative with units on scene and made several threatening remarks towards Officers. Both Gunn and Smith were debriefed by Investigators and charged accordingly. Evidence seized by Detectives through credible information and surveillance is listed below:
45 bags of Heroin, 1 gram of crack cocaine and 2 bags of marijuana
One black Hi-Standard, model 104, .22 caliber long rifle
One silver Titan, .25 caliber firearm with an obliterated serial number
