Arrest Made After Stolen Vehicle Theft

On April 6, 2015, at 8:13pm patrol units responded to Preston and Campfield for the report of a motor vehicle theft at gun point. The vehicle was occupied by (2) juveniles when the it was taken by the suspect. Minutes later, the stolen vehicle arrived at Hartford Hospital with the operator/suspect suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper side/torso. A short time later, a second male victim was dropped off at Hartford Hospital with a non-life threatening GSW to leg. At 2047 hours, a 3rd male victim was dropped off at Saint Francis Hospital with a GSW to the leg.

The children (8yo and 3yo) were found in the vehicle, uninjured. They were immediately reunited with their family.

-Through investigation, a shooting scene was located in the area of 31 Gilman Street, and determined to be the location of incident.
-Operator/suspect of stolen vehicle was identified as Tony Mercado 23 of Hartford. He was listed in critical but stable condition. He was released today and immediately placed under arrest.
-Victim#2: Steven Pedraza 27 of Hartford. Non-life threatening GSW and has been released from hospital
-Victim#3: Juan Rosa 34 of Hartford. Non-life threatening GSW and will be released from hospital.

Further details of this investigation are enclosed in the arrest warrant which can be made available at the clerk's office/GA14.

This incident is still under investigation and is active.
The accused should be in court Monday morning.

1. Robbery in the 1st Degree
2. Risk of injury to a minor 2 counts
3. Kidnapping 2nd Degree 2counts
Judge set bond $750.000

UConn Parade Road Closures

The Hartford Police Department Traffic Division has issued a traffic advisory in connection with the UCONN Women's National Championship Victory Parade to be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015, begining at 3:00 p.m., at the State Capitol and Bushnell Park in Hartford and ending at the XL Center.

Maple Ave Surveillance Leads to Arrest

On April 7, 2015 undercover Detectives from the Hartford Police Department Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Division developed information that a large amount of heroin was being packaged at 1067 Maple Ave. Surveillance was setup in the area by undercover Detectives from the HPD Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Division as well as Detectives from the State Police Task Force and officers from the HPD South Conditions Unit. The target was observed exiting 1067 Maple Ave., carrying a large bag and entering a vehicle. During the investigation, a motor vehicle stop was conducted on this vehicle at which time the passenger/target exited the vehicle and attempted to flee from the officers. The accused was caught and found in possession of 1600 bags of Heroin. During a search of his residence, detectives recovered 3400 individual bags of heroin and 144 grams pure Heroin along with packaging material. Based on the dynamics of the investigation, the target was arrested on federal charges.

Accused: Jorge Rivera DOB 4-28-89 LKA 25 Wilbur Street, Htfd CHARGES: Federal Narcotic charges
