In response to the recent increase of gun violence within the North District, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., members of the Hartford Police Department's Central Conditions Unit and Central Community Service Officers assisted in coverage in the North District with "Hot Spot" enforcement. During this directed patrol, HPD Officers observed a red SUV parked on the sidewalk in front of the "Coconut Cafe" located at the intersection of Albany Avenue and Burton Street. As HPD Officers approached the SUV, the operator immediately pulled away, ran a red light and proceeded to travel northbound onto Vine Street. HPD Officers were able to conduct a motor vehicle stop of the SUV in the area of 24 Vine Street. Upon stopping the motor vehicle, the back seat passenger immediately exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. HPD Officers began to pursue the suspect, who was clenching his waist band, towards the rear of 44 Vine Street. The suspect was able to gain entry to the multi-family dwelling and was located by HPD Officers inside the bathroom of apartment 3-C, where he was taken into custody. HPD Officers recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson (M&P) .40 caliber firearm with 12 live rounds, which was located inside the toilet tank of the bathroom. The Hartford Police Department Shooting Task Force was notified. The suspect, later identified as Abrahm Hannah, 32, of New Britain, CT was transported to the Hartford Police Department Booking facility for several firearm charges.
