HARTFORD POLICE TO CONDUCT DUI ENFORCEMENT CHECKPOINT

(Hartford, CT.) – The Hartford Police Department Traffic Division will conduct a DUI Enforcement Checkpoint on Thursday, May 8, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., in the area of 660 Park Street.

This checkpoint is part of the Hartford Police Department’s ongoing expanded DUI enforcement program supervised by the HPD’s Traffic Division and funded through a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation DUI Enforcement Program.

HARTFORD POLICE TO CONDUCT DUI ENFORCEMENT CHECKPOINT

WANTED for MURDER

 

The Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division Homicide Detectives have solved a 2013 homicide and are seeking the public’s help in locating the accused.  

On September 19, 2013 at 9:31pm HPD patrol officers responded to reports of an unresponsive victim in the area of South Marshall St and Case St. Officers located the victim, 39 year old Kareem Lewis of Hartford, unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot. The victim was transported to St. Francis where he was pronounced at 10:18pm

The investigation by the Major Crimes Division Homicide Detectives led to identifying the accused- Shadeed Islam, Date of Birth-05/08/1980, as being the shooter in this incident.  On April 28, 2014 an arrest warrant was submitted and approved for Shadeed Islam for the homicide of Kareem Lewis.  Islam has a $5,000,000.00 judge set bond. Shadeed Islam has an extensive firearms and narcotics history with 39 previous arrests (just in Hartford). The firearm used in the homicide has not been recovered and HPD believes he may be armed and dangerous. 

HPD’s efforts to locate Shadeed Islam have not been successful. The Hartford Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating him. This is the third arrest warrant obtained for a homicide in a week by the homicide detectives.

 

2012 Homicde Arrest

On September 27, 2012 Hartford Police Officers responded to rear of 216 Washington Street on a report of and bleeding female. Officers found Sonia Rivera, 48yo lying on the ground with her pants down, bleeding severely, and suffering from fatal head trauma. A brick, believed to be the weapon was located on scene. Ms. Rivera was transported to Hartford Hospital where she was pronounced dead on September 29th. Her death was ruled a homicide, blunt force trauma to the head by the O.C.M.E.

Hartford Police Major Crimes Division- Homicide Detectives lead the investigation. The DNA evidence located at the scene was critical to the investigation. Detectives consulted with and utilized Dr. Lee and the Forensic Science Department, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science, University of New Haven as well as the CT. State Forensic Lab.

Homicide Detectives develop a profile of the suspect, Denzil Nurse DOB 6/15/1971, who was wanted on unrelated burglary charges. In May of 2013 Nurse was arrested in connection the Burglaries. Prior to incarceration, Homicide Detectives interviewed Nurse. He was charged for the Burglary and given a $75,000 bond. Nurse is still serving time in the CT Department of Corrections (Osborne Corr. Institution).

Over the next several months detectives worked with the forensic labs. On May 2, 2014 Hartford Police Major Crimes Homicide Detectives, working closely with the Connecticut States Attorney’s Office, obtained an arrest warrant for Nurse, charging him with Murder in the Homicide of Ms. Rivera. He has a $2,000,000 bond. Nurse is a convicted felon with 29 previous Hartford Arrests. Nurse will be served with the Murder warrant on his next court appearance.
