(November 8, 2013) The Marketing, Events and Cultural Affairs (MECA) Division will host another “iConnect Here” event today Friday from 5pm-9pm. This month’s events will be at 231 Trumbull St (to the left of the XL Center Marquee) with Hartford Denim Co and various other vendors, 64 Pratt St (the old LuxBond and Green space) with a knitting circle and pop up shopping, and 42 ½ Pratt St the new home to Hartford Prints!
The iConnect project aims to re-purpose empty, street-level commercial spaces to create temporary retail and incubation spaces inspired by the creative industry. iConnect’s mixed-use storefront spaces features studios, retail stores, workshops, exhibits, interactive displays and forums for ongoing community conversations around the arts and other local issues.
The iConnect program is partially funded through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Office of the Arts for the purpose of converting empty storefronts into mixed use spaces. The City’s Marketing Events and Cultural Affairs Department, who administers the project, received over 40 applications from which a total of 5 businesses were selected. Selected businesses receive up to $2,000 for build-out and set up assistance and free rent in a Downtown storefront for 6 months.
