(December 9, 2013) On Wednesday December 11th, the City of Hartford’s Department of Development Services will present its final plans at a public meeting for the redevelopment of the area north of I-84, east of the Connecticut River often referred to as Downtown North. The area has now been expanded to include parts of Union Station known as Downtown West. The city has held two previous public meetings on this issue; one in July and another in October.
The final presentation will summarize priority development sites with the highest potential for mixed usage. Results build on past efforts as well as new research including a retail market study commissioned by the City and conducted by national urban planning expert, Robert Gibbs of Gibbs Planning Group. Data from a new housing market analysis that considers traffic patterns, pedestrian connectivity and road conditions will also be discussed. Recommendations will consider design standards and zoning to ensure development is beneficial for surrounding residents.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
