(May 23, 2014) Today, Mayor Segarra made the following statement regarding the nomination of San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro for Housing and Urban Development Secretary:
“Throughout his tenure as Mayor, Julian Castro has worked to develop San Antonio into a city in which the entire country can take pride. Fostering growth and a climate conducive to business enterprise while still protecting the city’s most vulnerable citizens is the primary challenge for every mayor, and Mayor Castro has succeeded admirably on both fronts.
San Antonio is the only US city with a population of more than a million to receive a AAA credit rating from all three credit agencies, its school system’s graduation rate of 92% already exceeds goals set for 2020, and tremendous strides have been made in public health and transportation. I look forward to seeing Mayor Castro carry this success on to the national stage.
The wide-ranging leadership opportunities provided by HUD are ideally suited to Mayor Castro's skillset, and I look forward to seeing the positive results of his housing and neighborhood revitalization efforts, both nationally and on a local level here in Hartford."
