DEPARTMENT OF FAMILIES, CHILDREN, YOUTH AND RECREATION ANNOUNCES FREE SOCCER SHOTS CLINICS FOR PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN

(October 26, 2015) Today, the Department of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation and Soccer Shots, a youth soccer development organization for children, announced that free soccer clinics for children ages 3 to 5 will be available this fall, starting November 14, 2015 at the Samuel V. Arroyo Center Gym at Pope Park. The clinics, sponsored by the Department of Children, Families, Youth and Recreation, are a continuation of a soccer program that took place in the spring with support from ESPN and the National Recreation and Park Association. The fall soccer clinics, available to Hartford residents only, are part of an ongoing effort by the City of Hartford to provide young children with physical fitness opportunities. Clinics will take place Saturday mornings on November 14, November 21, December 5 and December 12.

“We want young kids to be physically active. Exercise benefits not only children’s health, it canalso positively impact other areas of their lives. In addition, team sports foster friendship and a sense of community among the young players and their families,” said Mayor Pedro E. Segarra.

The soccer clinics will be coached by trainers from Soccer Shots. Space is limited. Registration is open at Arroyo, Metzner Recreation Center, and Parker Memorial Recreation Center until November 7, 2015. For additional information call (860)757-4888.
