MAYOR BRONIN ANNOUNCES KENEY GOLF COURSE WILL RE-OPEN ON MAY 1, 2016
GRAND RE-OPENING CEREMONY FOR KENEY PARK GOLF COURSE WILL TAKE PLACE IN CONJUNCTION WITH MAYOR MIKE’S FOUNDATION FOR KIDS’ ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT ON MAY 21, 2016; INAUGURAL HARTFORD WOMEN’S OPEN TO TAKE PLACE AT KENEY PARK GOLF COURSE ON JUNE 18-19, 2016; THE 85TH CONNECTICUT PGA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD AT KENEY PARK GOLF COURSE ON AUGUST 23-24, 2016

Hartford, Conn. (April 29, 2016) – Today, Mayor Luke Bronin announced that Keney Park Golf Course will re-open to the public on Sunday, May 1, 2016. He also announced that the grand re-opening ceremony for the golf course will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016, in conjunction with Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids’ annual golf tournament.

The 18-hole, par 70 golf course occupies 6,014 yards of Hartford’shistoric 700-acre Keney Park, located in the city’s North End. The first nine holes of the Keney Park Golf Course were finished in 1927, and the remaining nine were completed in 1930.

In 2013, the city closed the course after a contractor that had been operating it since 2009 allowed the course to deteriorate, failing to make required capital improvements. The contractor also cut down hundreds of trees without proper permission. This weekend, the course will reopen for the first time in three years.

“On Sunday, the Keney Park Golf Course will once again be open for business,” said Mayor Luke Bronin. “This beautiful, historic, and newly-restored 18-hole course should be a destination of choice for golfers throughout Hartford, the Greater Hartford Region, and beyond. I encourage golfers of all ages — and levels of ability — to come play one of the best courses in the state.”

Mayor Bronin also noted that the official grand re-opening ceremony for the golf course will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016. The ceremony will be paired up with the start of Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids’ annual golf tournament. Founded in 2009, the foundation pays tribute to the late Hartford Mayor Mike Peters and donates its proceeds to youth programs in the state’s capital city.

In addition, Mayor Bronin stated that the inaugural Hartford Women’s Open will take place on June 18-19, 2016. And the 85th Connecticut PGA National Championship will be held at Keney Park Golf Course on August 23-24, 2016.

Beginning on Sunday, May 1, 2016, tee times are available at Keney Park Golf Course (171 Windsor Ave., Hartford, Conn. 06095) beginning at 11:30 a.m.
