(April 4, 2012) --- After an extensive search and interview process, Mayor Segarra today announced the selection of Thomas Deller, AICP, as the City's Development Services Director. His selection will be formally announced at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012 in the City Hall Function Room, 550 Main Street.
Deller, who has more than three decades of experience in planning and urban development, was most recently Director of Planning and Development in Providence, RI. He has also served as Deputy Executive Director for the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation, Managing Planner for Pare Engineering Corporation and Planner for the city of East Providence.
"As Connecticut's Capital City aggressively moves forward with the revitalization of its neighborhoods, place-making initiatives such as iQuilt, and the recruitment and retention of businesses, I was committed to identifying a professionally seasoned urban development manager who had the knowledge and experience to take Hartford to the next level," Mayor Segarra said. "Tom has a demonstrated record of working effectively with complex public organizations and directly with urban leaders. I am confident that he understands Hartford's short- and long-term needs, and will develop and implement the policies that not only address those needs, but also establishes a culture of continued improvement."
Deller succeeds Development Services Director David Panagore, who has been serving in that role in addition to his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer. Segarra applauded Panagore for his leadership and dedication in that position, during which time significant progress on a number of projects has occurred including One City, One Plan, iQuilt, Capewell, Coltsville, the Sonesta Hotel and removal of numerous blighting g structures including 1161 Main Street and Capitol West.
Deller has a Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies and a Master's degree in Community Planning from the University of Rhode Island. His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association. Pending Council confirmation, Deller will begin work on April 23, 2012.
