MAYOR BRONIN ATTENDS SCHOOL WALKOUT, APPLAUDS STUDENTS CALLING FOR GUN SAFETY REFORMS

HARTFORD, CONN (March 14, 2018) –Mayor Luke Bronin released the statement below after joining students at Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy this morning during their walkout in remembrance of the lives lost in the Parkland shooting.

“Today, huge numbers of students stood up, walked out, and called on America’s elected leaders to show some courage, compassion, and common sense,” said Mayor Bronin.  “This is one of the most powerful movements we’ve seen in a long time, and it was inspiring to see so many brave, eloquent students raise their voices in Hartford this morning.  Lawmakers have a basic choice to make, in Congress and around the nation: stand with these young people pleading for common-sense, or give way to the political threats and intimidation of the NRA.  Young people are saying ‘enough is enough,’ and we adults need to listen.”
