HARTFORD WARMING CENTERS OPEN DURING COLD WEATHER

HARTFORD, CONN (January 29, 2019) – The City of Hartford will have daytime warming centers and an overnight warming center open during the upcoming cold weather, as State has activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocol.  Mayor Luke Bronin also reminded property owners and landlords that they are responsible for clearing the snow on sidewalks adjacent to their properties after storms.  Hartford expects up to two inches of snow and rain beginning later tonight, but there is no parking ban.

“We are expecting a combination of snow and rain overnight and our Public Works team will be out salting, plowing, and shoveling beginning late tonight,” said Mayor Bronin.  “There are daytime warming centers open around the city, and we will also open our overnight warming center beginning Wednesday at 12 noon until 12 noon on Sunday.  Please remember that you have six hours after a storm to shovel your sidewalks – including curb cuts that allow residents in wheelchairs to travel safely away from the road.  After last week’s storm, we received a number of complaints that sidewalks had not been cleared well enough by private property owners.”
