(June 1, 2012) --- Mayor Pedro E. Segarra today released the following statement to commemorate the start of Caribbean American Heritage Month.
"As Connecticut's Capital City is home to the third largest Caribbean population in the United States, we must recognize the important cultural and economic contributions made by our friends and partners in the Caribbean. And while our strongest bonds are based on investment, economics and trade, there is no question that more can and will be done to continue to bolster and enhance new growth opportunities.
The richness of the Caribbean people adds a dynamic vibrancy to our neighborhoods that cannot and should not be overlooked. Moreover, the depth of the collective appreciation for the history of the Caribbean and how it has impacted Hartford must always remain at the forefront of our thoughts as we continue to move Hartford forward."
