(December 5, 2012) Today, The Department of Development Services- Division of Licenses and Inspections, the Hartford Police Department and Health and Human Services announced plans to enforce strict penalties on landlords who fail to provide essential services; heat, hot water, cooking gas and electricity. This is the first time in City history the Departments are teaming up to address a systemic issue by enforcing strict penalties that include arrest.
According to State Statute 19a-109, occupants/landlord/agents must maintain a room temperature at a minimum of 65 degrees and hot water at least 120 degrees throughout the winter months. Any violation must be corrected within 24 hours.
The Hartford Police Department has warned that failure to comply with the state statues can and will result in arrest.
