Mayor Segarra Announces Additional Repsonse to Heatwave Conditions in Hartford

(July 18, 2013) — The City of Hartford will host several large events over the next few days, and with high humidity and temperatures expected to be in the mid-90s, Mayor Segarra has announced additional measures to ensure residents and visitors are safe and comfortable.

“Hartford will have large crowds attending outdoor events such as tonight’s Riverfest or this weekend’s Greater Hartford Jazz Festival. We're collaborating with all event partners including Global Spectrum and Riverfront Recapture to ensure folks have access to care and services if the heat becomes too much. It's also important that everyone take simple precautions and prepare to be outside for long periods of time during the heat.”

Mayor Segarra has implemented the following measures in response to the continued heat:

  • City cooling center hours extended; all locations now open from 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • Free water available during the Riverfest fireworks display
  • Cooling tents at the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival this weekend
  • Cold water stations placed outside the XL Center for tonight’s Justin Bieber concert
  • All seniors have access to free, air-conditioned transport to cooling centers by contacting the City’s Dial-a-Ride program at (860) 251-8261
