City of Hartford Employees Launch Month-Long Initiative in Support of The United Way

(September 11, 2013) - On Friday, September 13, City of Hartford employees will begin a month long campaign to raise awareness about the assistance provided to Hartford residents through the United Way. A fall festival themed kickoff event with balloons, music, candy apples, popcorn, games, and more is scheduled from noon to 3pm in Burr Mall. Attendees can “dunk” a Councilman, Fire Chief or other brave volunteers for a small donation. City employees will also participate in a silent auction and department competitions throughout the month.

The programs and services of the United Way’s partner agencies assist residents in Hartford and the 40 towns surrounding Hartford. Community Investment programs support the education, income, health and basic needs including calls to the United Way 2-1-1 info line, reading programs for children, tax assistance, and SNAP assistance. Some agencies that benefit from our contributions to Community Investment include; American Red Cross, Connecticut Chapter, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, ConnectiKids, Family Life Education, Food Share, Greater Hartford Legal Aid, Hartford Areas Rally Together, Hispanic Health Council, Interval House, Mi Casa Family Service & Educational Center, My Sisters’ Place, Urban League of Greater Hartford, The Village for Families & Children, VNA Health Care, and the Women’s League Child Development Center.

Smaller events will be held through the campaign which runs from September 13 until October 15.

  • September 26, 2013, 12pm- 2pm at Health & Human Services | 131 Coventry St
  • October 3, 2013, 2:30pm – 4:30pm at the Public Safety Complex | 253 High St
  • October 9, 2013, 6am – 7:30am at the Public Works Yard | 40 Jennings Rd
