City of Hartford Selects Five Local Agencies to Receive Portion of Federal Grant; Part of President Obama’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative

(March 6, 2013) –The Health and Human Services Department today announced five local agencies selected to receive $5,000 as part of President Obama’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI). The agencies are: Community Renewal Team; Restoring Lives Community Development Corporation; Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective; Central Area Health Education Council and; Lawson Chapel Church of Jesus Christ. The selection process included submission of a proposal by January 3, 2013.

Mayor Pedro Segarra Hosts Breakfast to Encourage Hiring Efforts for Hartford Residents

(March, 5, 2013) – On Wednesday, March 20, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will host a breakfast for area employers to encourage the hiring of Hartford residents. The event is a partnership between the City of Hartford and the state’s Subsidized Training and Employment Program (Step Up), an initiative of the Connecticut Department of Labor’s CTWorks and Capital Workforce Partners.

Mayor Segarra and City of Hartford Prepare For Another Difficult Budget Season

For 3rd Consecutive Year, Pension & Health Care Are Significant Expenditure Drivers 

(February 23, 2013) -- Based on preliminary forecasts, the City of Hartford anticipates a budget deficit of approximately $70 million dollars for FY13-14. The estimates were presented on Thursday night by the City’s Financial Director and Office of Management and Budget during the first Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting to address the FY13-14 budget. Per the City Charter, the  budget must be approved by May 31st.
