Transportation
Services Division
The Transportation Division has
assumed all infrastructure responsibilities related to transportation of people
and goods on city streets and sidewalks. These responsibilities include street
design; pavement maintenance, repair, construction and reconstruction; and
traffic and parking operations.
The city's responsibilities regarding legal
traffic authority duties are the design and management of the traffic signal
system, preparation and review of traffic impact reports and the control and
operation of the computerized signal system.
The City Traffic Engineer, who
heads this division, serves as liaison with the Connecticut Department of
Transportation, the Capitol Region Council of Government (CRCOG), and other
federal agencies.
Transportation Services also combines the engineering and
street services functions within the same division. The engineering
responsibilities include design and development of designated Parks Trust Fund
capitol improvements, designated Urban Act and CDBG funded projects and joint
State DOT/city street projects. The division is also responsible for snow
plowing, leaf collection, and drainage not otherwise covered by the Metropolitan
District Commission. The division also provides services in support of special
events with traffic control and street cleaning and grass cutting on street
medians.
