The Department of Public Works is responsible for and is committed to maintaining the city's physical infrastructure and providing quality services to the citizens of Hartford.  Public Works maintains all city streets and public right of way amenities including traffic controls, all city parks and grounds, all public buildings (except Board of Education), all flood control components, and all city owned vehicles (except Fire Department and Board of Education). 

In addition, Public Works provides a number of important services to the public including waste and recycling collection, clean up of some vacant properties, leaf collection, street sweeping and cleaning, and support of special events held throughout the city.  The department also plays a significant role in the Rodent Control Program.

The Department of Public Works is firmly committed to providing the city's residents, businesses and visitors with the highest level of service achievable.
