Civil Union Certificates

A civil union certificate proves that you entered into a civil union with a certain person on a certain date.  If you are going to be entering into a civil union, you need a civil union license, not a civil union certificate. To see information about civil union licenses, click here.

Copies of a Hartford civil union certificate may be obtained in person, or through a mailed-in request. Copies are $20 each. Mailed-in requests must be accompanied by a money order made payable to the City of Hartford. See below for further details. (Please Do Not Send Cash)

 Civil Union Application Process

To facilitate providing the necessary information, you may download a copy of the Application for Civil Union Certificate form. To get the application for a civil union certificate, click here. To be able to access this form, your computer must have Acrobat Reader.  Most computers have Acrobat Reader, and it will usually activate itself automatically.  If your computer does not have Acrobat Reader, you can download a copy of it by going to the Adobe website.

In-Person Requests

You may obtain a Civil Union certificate immediately in person. You will be required to fill out a short application and produce valid identification as outlined above. Purchases may be made with cash or money order payable to the City of Hartford. Copies are $20 each.

For Mailed-In Requests

Please make money order payable to the City of Hartford. Copies are $10 each. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks to receive the certificate(s). Our mailing address is:
