Hartford Volunteer Recognition Program

Hartford is a stronger City because of the thousands of people every year who volunteer their time to support great causes – engaging young people, protecting the environment, and so much more. In appreciation of our amazing volunteers, Hartford is launching a Citywide Volunteer Recognition Program and will recognize their efforts beginning in April, during National Volunteer Month. Every month, representatives from the Mayor’s office, City Council, and relevant City departments will select an adult and youth volunteer of the month, based on submissions from members of the community.  

Eligibility:

·          Volunteer work must be uncompensated and not a part of any employment

·          Nominees must perform volunteer service within the City of Hartford

·          City of Hartford residency not required

·          Students receiving course credit are eligible only if the volunteer service extends beyond course/degree requirements

·          Individuals involved in court mandated services are ineligible

·          City employees and their immediate families are ineligible

Nomination Process:

·          Volunteers can be nominated by an individual, a group or an organization, but cannot self-nominate

·          Nominations cannot be submitted by members of the judging panel nor employees of the City of Hartford

·          Nominees must have demonstrated exceptional service to the City of Hartford through a local organization or directly to residents

Recognition:

Recipients will be publicly recognized by Mayor Bronin and City Council for their volunteer efforts.  

Selection Committee:

Include representatives from the Mayor’s Office, City Council, and various city departments.
