Wireless Hartford Wins Quality and Innovation  Award

Wireless Hartford is an initiative conceived by Mayor Eddie Perez to close the digital divide in the city of Hartford where approximately two thirds of households lack a functioning computer and access to the Internet. The goal of the program is to provide a measure of free and low cost wireless broadband access to all Hartford residents and provide low cost computer equipment and training.

The first phase of the program will provide wireless access, training and low cost computers in the Downtown and Blue Hills neighborhoods.

During the first phase of this effort residents will simply be required to login to the system with their wireless-ready computer to receive free access to the Internet. Coverage in Blue Hills is being expanded during the summer of 2007.

Registration for an account is easy. If you are a Hartford resident you can sign up for free access at the wireless portal page, https://secure.wiboss.com/user/portal/?pid=5444
Other customers can also sign up at the portal page for one of our non resident service plans.

Residents receiving a computer through this program will attend a brief training session focused on computer setup, connecting to the wireless network, and computer fundamentals. Additional training on how to use computer applications, email and the Internet will be available at the Hartford Public Library Central Library, 500 Main St, and Blue Hills Branch, 649 Blue Hills Ave. The training schedule is available at the library and online at www.hplct.org
